The Eye Center of Charleston is thrilled to welcome Dr. Hugh E. Wright III to the practice. Dr. Wright was raised in Greenville, SC. He graduated cum laude in 2009 with a B.S. in biochemistry, a B.A. in chemistry and a minor in biology from the College of Charleston.
Dr. Wright received his M.D. from the College of Medicine at the Medical University of SC in 2013, where he spent time volunteering at the Fight for Sight Clinic, MUSC Care's Clinic, and Crisis Ministries
Dr. Wright received his internship in Internal Medicine at the Medical University of SC in 2014 and is currently completing his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock.
He received the Resident Academic Achievement Award in 2016 for his esteemed contributions to teaching and research in ophthalmology. Dr. Wright has authored several publications in Case Report in Ophthalmology and Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery journals. He has been an enthusiastic member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology since 2014 and is dutifully serving as Chief Resident during his final year of training.
Dr. Wright is very excited to be joining the skilled and compassionate physicians at the Eye Center of Charleston. He'll be working as a fulltime ophthalmologist with special interest in comprehensive ophthalmology, cataract surgery, and medical glaucoma.
In his free time, Dr. Wright loves spending time with his wife Kimberly, his dog Finn, as well as family and friends. He enjoys hiking, camping, running and golf.
